Important notice: restricted road access to the observatoryWe inform staff and visitors that, due to roadworks currently taking place on the LP-4 road, the usual access route to the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos (ORM) via Mirca is closed in both directions between km 25 and km 31, from 9:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, until further notice. An access window between 14:30 and 15:00 has been authorized for vehicles travelling both up and down. Vehicles may enter this stretch no earlier than 14:30 and must leave it no later than 15:00. These works began on April 13 and, according to the information received, are expected to continue for approximately 35 to 45 days.As an alternative during the closure hours, access to the observatory is possible via the LP-1 from Santa Cruz de La Palma, heading north towards Los Sauces and Barlovento and continuing around the north of the island until reaching the junction with the LP-4 between km 64 and km 65. You can check the suggested itinerary here: https://shorturl.at/50u26 Please take these restrictions into account when planning trips to and from the observatory and allocate additional travel time where necessary, since the alternative route takes approximately 2 hours. We strongly recommend avoiding the LP-1 in the opposite direction, i.e. from west to east via Los Llanos, as there are also roadworks affecting that section.
