Further investigations were made in to the pick-up noise seen in the data, and it was found that the power supply unit of the array controller caused this. The design of the controller was modified, increasing the separation between the power supply and the electronics, which basically eliminated the pick-up noise. The overall readout noise has been reduced by half and is now close to specifications (10-12 electrons) for both readout modes.
