A report has been written describing an upgrade plan for the NOT autoguider system both for the existing X-Y carriage system and include a discussion for a potential fixed large format CCD system for the new adapter.
As part of the upgrade, the new guide-probe head supplied by CUO was successfully installed and tested in April. This nearly doubles the field of view for the guide probe when used with ALFOSC or MOSCA, due to the significant reduction in vignetting and resulting in an approximate doubling of the available number of guide stars. For this system to be used with FRED a more sensitive guide camera is required, but due to the limited space only two possible cameras have been identified and we are still waiting for a reply on some specification details.
