A new CCD with cryotiger was been installed which has made FIES a fully functional high-res (R=60000) spectrograph, with a wavelength coverage of 3800-8300Å.
A special `skew' readout mode has been developed for FIES. This readout mode makes it possible to choose a lower resolution for the spectrograph thus enabling observations of fainter objects. An additional advantage of the readout mode is the reduced readout time (for example for R=10000, readout time is 15 seconds). Further development may reduce the readout time to less than 5 seconds for all resolutions, including the normal (unbinned) resolution of 60000.
