Nordic Optical Telescope

Strategy questionnaire 2010

The NOT Scientific Technical Committee (STC) requests your input to the process of defining the future strategy and priorities for the NOT in the era where operations of all modern European 2-4m telescope is expected to be coordinated and the NOT is expected to become part of an integrated 2-4m telescope facility on La Palma. We need to know the highest-priority science you want to do with these European 2-4m telescopes, specifically with the NOT and/or the other night-time telescopes on La Palma.

Please indicate how much you expect to use these telescopes over the next five years, what observing modes are most important to you, and what instrument capabilities you will need.

Note that, for our planning purposes, exact numbers for your past and projected future use of the telescopes are not needed; best estimates will do.

Based on the input we receive, a draft strategy report will be made available around July 1 for comment by the community over the summer. The final report will then be released by October 1.

For any questions, please contact Johannes Andersen or Thomas Augusteijn.

Instructions

Please answer the questions provided below. You can find explanations on each question below them. Those questions that are not highlighted are optional and do not require an answer.

When filling in the data, you may see some questions turning red: that will hint about questions that should be answered (but you left blank). When submitting, the browser will show a message in case some question still requires your attention.

Also, when submitting the questionnaire you will first get a summary of your answers with the options to either return to the form if you want to change anything, or proceed to sending your questionnaire.
