  1. 'Adjusting azimuth turns, please wait ...'
    Due to the limitation of +/- 4 turns this might be done when parking the building. Close hatches and sideports meanwhile. In rare cases this might happen during a preset. Action: informational.
  2. 'Alt-Az PSU error !'
    Action: Call staff.
  3. 'Alt-Az power failure !'
    Action: Call staff.
  4. 'Altitude out of range !'
    A preset was tried to an object that is below the lowest altitude limit.
  5. 'Approaching rotator negative limit.'
    This informs You that You should have rotated the rotator 360 degrees before the exposure. In worst case it might come to the limit around +/- 200 degrees and then automatically turn 360 degrees.
    Action: If this happens, just hold the exposure while rotating.

    Action: If not caused by an external power cut, think about closing down and telling the staff duty person.

    Usually caused by electric noise but might indicate failure in them.
    Action: If persistent, call staff.

    Usually caused by electric noise but might indicate failure in them.

    If You are lucky, it is only some melting ice from the cooling pipes in the service loft. Another possibility is the same from the HIRAC cooling plate connection where the valve was left open. If You are unlucky it is a real cooling water leak.
    Action: call staff.
  22. 'Counter weight operation failure.'
    Bad unless staff switched to local control during movement.
    Action: call staff.
  23. 'Dome fans stopped!'
    Informational, usually not important.
  24. 'Dusty and Wind > 10 m/s. Close lower hatch?'
    Might be a good idea.

    Recommended.

    This is "file not found", an incorrect filename has been given.
  32. 'External power failure! Keep closed!'
    This causes an automatic power-off, otherwise the power electronics might be over heated. Action: close down immediately. If the power comes back (ventilation fans starts again), wait 20 minutes before powering on again to make sure all systems are stable in temperature.
  33. 'External power failure! Keep dome closed'
    Action: Wait at least 20 minutes after power comes back (ventilation fans starts) before powering on.
  34. 'Fatal Error - doing power OFF!'
    This is the automatic power-off when something went very bad.
    Action: Call staff.
  35. 'GPS SelfTest = nnn !'
    Well, the GPS module is already half dead.
    Action: ignore.
  36. 'Guide box is at an edge! Do 'bo-mo-sto'.'
    If You track moving objects using the moving guide box this happens when it comes to an edge of the autoguider screen. Action: execute command.
  37. 'GUIDE-PROBE out of range!'
    Might happen if the guide star server returns a slightly incorrect position.
    Action: try pointing again.
  38. 'Guide probe X PA is rather warm.'
    Remnant from the days when the guide probe was used to track moving objects. If it happens, reason might be mechanical failure, a burning amplifier or a faulty resistor. No problem if the guide star is visible.

  45. 'HighSpeedAlarm in Rotator !'
    With power on, if the rotator moves too fast due to bad brake function or a failing amplifier the automatic security device is supposed to cut the rotator power causing some rotator power error messages. This also results in an automatic power-off.
    Action: If 4 successive power-on's does not help, then inform staff.
  46. 'Humidity > 90%. Perhaps close hatches ?'
    Highly recommended.
  47. 'Humidity > 90%. Please close side ports.'
    Highly recommended.
  48. 'Hydraulic plant Power-On timeout!'
    The hydraulic plant is managed by the same CPU that talks with the adapter.
    Check if the ST on the UI terminal is updated or if any other updates are done on the screen. If not, it might be that the communication with the adapter has stopped. If so, there might be a message on the Slave1 error screen up on the shelf to the very left saying that "program xxx aborted due to bus error" or something like that (if that screen is black, dig out the keyboard for it and just press SHIFT). Go up to the adapter and check if there is any green light on the guide TV level sensor to the right of StanCam and green lights on the power supplies just to the left of StanCam. If not, the adapter power is gone.
  49. 'It is probably raining. Close side ports?'
    It might be raining or the rain sensor reacted to some non-rain substance. Please check outside just in case.
  50. 'It seems to be RAINING! Close hatches ?'
    Please check outside to see if this is the case, otherwise it is probably the rain sensor reacting to a non-rain substance.
  51. 'Local Lower Hatch control error !'
    The PLC that controls the hatch is probably not in operation.
    Action: call staff.
  52. 'Local Upper Hatch control error !'
    The PLC that controls the hatch is probably not in operation.
    Action: call staff.
  53. 'Lower hatch might be autoclosed in 2 min.'
    You should already have done this.
    Action: close lower hatch.

    Indicates that You are just violating the weather rules.

    Some of the 45 bellows might not operate properly, usually to be ignored.
    Action: if rare (a few times in the night), record in EON report. If frequent, call staff.
  59. 'Mirror cell bellow-high warning !'
    Probably caused by lack of air supply. Likely to be followed by complaints about air compressor. Action: record in EON report, call staff if persistent.
  60. 'Mirror cell Supply Pressure Alarm !'
    Probably caused by lack of air supply. Likely to be followed by complaints about air compressor. Action: record in EON report, call staff if persistent.
  61. 'Mirror support compressor failure!'
    Action: If the guide star comes back after say 5 minutes then no problem, otherwise contact staff duty person.
  62. 'No Air Pressure for Mirror Support !'
    This probably means that no observing can be done.
    Action: Wait 5 minutes, if guide star comes back then no problem, otherwise contact staff duty person.
  63. 'No Oil Pressure in Hydraulic Plant !'
    This is very serious.
    Action: call staff.
  64. 'Noncritical: HBMerror, pls note Log Book'
    Related to communication with the top unit.
    Action: ignore
  65. 'Oil Filter Block in Hydraulic Plant !'
    This is very serious.
    Action: call staff.
  66. 'Overload in CounterWeight !'
    Only expected when operating the counterweights.

    Mostly caused by an interruption of the infrared beam at the stairs.

    Action: If it complains a lot of times about this, and the guide star hickups at the same time then it is time to inform the staff duty person.
